1st - isn't this version of the name more accurate to the way Turkiye's citizens already pronounce it? It seems like a great thing that now we can all start saying the name properly.

2nd - I don't get the obsession that some folks, especially conservative Americans get with telling other people and nations what they can and cannot do, in particular as it relates to names.

The rest of us see it as respect to address a person or a nation as they prefer. It doesn't wound me or take anything away from me to show this respect.

but in the end, there are some folks who are so accustomed to the world bending to their demands, that it feels painful to live in a world that is aiming more and more toward progress, respect and equity.

If you read this article and had a negative reaction to Turkiye's proper pronunciation and official name change, it's a good time to ask yourself Why?

It's not because you just prefer saying Turkey or you just don't get why they are making the change. It's deeper than that. Because if it wasn't deeper than that, you would not be bothered by this so much.
