What to do at the one year anniversary of homeownership

Here are things you should have done in the first month, but just in case you got caught up in the excitement of your new space, here’s a reminder.

Change the locks and file for your homestead exemption for property taxes.

Hopefully no one with previous access wants to enter your home but you never know. And trust me, you do not want to pay the full tax amount for your primary residence.

2. Check on your home warranty.

If you were my client, chances are the seller purchased a home warranty on your behalf. Now it’s time to decide if you want to continue the warranty beyond the first year. Simply call the warranty company and ask for the cost and what’s covered.
