As a daughter-mom, I was inspired to write the following after watching this video.

Yes. #1 He is correct and #2 Don’t expect to insulate them completely. They may experience a negative response but… read this for why teaching self esteem helps them rebound.

My daughter is now 16.

Strategy 1: Don’t attach reward to their looks.

From a very young age, I wanted to be intentional about building her view of herself as more than her beauty. It was a challenge in a world that is so mesmerized by beauty.

Example: When she was 3, everybody wanted to give her free things and say “Oh isn’t she beautiful! Here’s a free cookie.” or ice cream or toy.

It was maddening.

I would block the gift and explain that the gesture was appreciated but No.

People would often say “But she’s just a baby. Why take this approach?
