Our focus at that time needed to center on stopping the spread BUT some folks rage against uncertainty and instead thought figuring out the origin was the answer.

To use your analogy, why would they think finding the bomb's location would stop the deaths of victims in need of medical attention?

Yes, we are now in the right time to explore the causes BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY to establish the protective measures NO MATTER WHAT origin a future pandemic may come from.
