Thank you President Obama. Here is one thought for those following the conflict.
THIS is NOT about Kuwait - But In 1989, Iraq invaded Kuwait.
Why?
Because Kuwait was formerly a state of Iraq but the people of Kuwait in the early 1970s declared their independence and created a separate, independent government.
By 1991, Saddam's forces had obliterated much of Kuwait's burgeoning infrastructure and displaced most of the Kuwaiti people, many of whom fled to neighboring Saudi Arabia.
At this time, the US intervened (some say because prior to the invasion, the US had an alliance with Iraq's leader Saddam, and had given him most of the military resources he was now using to attack Kuwait)
Despite Iraq being an ally at that time, the US leadership decided to NOT support this invasion and attack on Kuwait.
Instead, the US decided to support the people of Kuwait in their assertion of independence, autonomy and international recognition.
#FreePalestine is NOT about Hamas. #FreePalestine is about the imprisoned people trapped in Gaza and those living under oppression in Israel and the West Bank.
#FreePalestine is about a sovereign group of people, who had lived for hundreds of years in their ancestral land seeking independence, safety and protection of their human rights.
No ally should be allowed to assault civilians and continue to receive our support. I have no issue, and most of us have no issue with assisting in locating those in Hamas who attacked and took hostages.
But we should NEVER fund a leader or their military who is doing just as much if not more horrors than Saddam did in Kuwait.
