What Do You Do When The Same Hand That Feeds You, Abuses You?

Why Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are hard for me to celebrate

This is hard to write, as anything is dealing with family. I usually avoid bringing my personal information into my public writing, because I have dealt with much of this, and put it onto its necessary shelves so I can proceed building in my life.

But… this season of the year always weighs on me, because I feel the expectation to join in the collective praise of moms and dads,

I am so happy for my friends and the random people on social media who share brilliant testimonials of the powerful examples and love of their parents. There truly is a culture of positive parenting in most homes that I want to praise to the mountaintops.

Parents are never 100% perfect, but so many of you have done tremendous work and committed to the development of the youth in your life, so I thank you.

but I don’t feel the same fervor that others do, and here’s why…
