Why ADHD is not a disorder
I know this will be controversial for some, but it needs to be said
I am one of many women who has almost every so-called symptom of ADHD but was never diagnosed. My brother, on the other hand, was. I don’t recall any meds for him though, probably because of how low income our family was.
But what did happen to him was: excuse-making.
It started with the adults in our lives excusing everything he did because “ADHD” made him do it.
Girls have rarely been diagnosed in childhood because supposedly we process those same inclinations differently from boys.
But here’s the result of this difference in reaction in many cases:
A lot more boys who were diagnosed stagnate because they are not expected to do any better. Or some become medication zombies. One teen would even cry when told it was “time for his meds.” When I asked why he was so upset, he said, “I feel like a zombie. I can’t think. I can’t be creative. It’s like it takes a part of me away.”
